It depends. In the state of California, a building permit is required for any project that involvesstructural changes, any addition to your square footage, or modifications to electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems, such as pipes, walls, or wiring. The type of construction projects that typically do not require a permit include simple cosmetic changes, such as the installation of a
new countertop, new paint, or flooring, as well as any minor repairs or certain small structures like a shed under 120 square feet. When you contract with Ed Neir Construction as your general contractor, you are responsible for payment of any required permit, and we take care of pulling that permit from your local town, city, or county building department. Prior to project start, we provide you with a clear understanding of the requirements, costs, and anticipated timeline.

While a project is under construction, can you support any special accommodations?

Yes. We are experts at managing construction projects requiring special accommodations. For clients who work from home during a construction project, or for those with an infant or young child, special accommodations can be made for “quiet” hours around which we schedule our work crews. Many clients request special accommodations for household members, pets, and houseplants. We happily accommodate clients with special work start and stop times. And we respectfully accommodate clients who need to remain in the house during a whole house remodel, as well as those who prefer to entrust us with their vacated residence.
