Our Commitment to Accessibility
Ed Neir Construction is committed to making our website accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is part of how we work: we build ADA-compliant spaces for our commercial clients and age-in-place features for our residential clients, and we hold our own website to the same standard.
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.
Measures We Take
Steps we have taken across this website include:
- Skip-to-content link. Every page begins with a keyboard-accessible link that jumps past the navigation straight to the main content.
- Logical heading structure. Each page has a single H1 and a consistent, non-skipping heading order, so screen reader users can navigate by heading.
- Colour contrast. Body text, headings, and button labels are checked against WCAG contrast ratios rather than chosen by eye.
- Visible keyboard focus. All links, buttons, and form fields show a clear focus outline when navigated by keyboard.
- Keyboard operability. Interactive elements, including the FAQ accordions and biography dialogs, can be opened, closed, and dismissed without a mouse.
- Reduced motion. Animations and transitions are suppressed for visitors whose systems request reduced motion.
- Responsive, resizable text. Layouts reflow on small screens and text can be enlarged without loss of content or function.
- Descriptive links. Link text describes its destination rather than relying on phrases like “click here.”
Known Limitations and Ongoing Work
Accessibility is an ongoing effort rather than a finished state. We are currently aware of, and actively working on, the following:
- Image alternative text. Some images still carry filename-based alternative text. We are replacing these with meaningful descriptions.
- Form field labels. We are reviewing our contact and newsletter forms to ensure every field carries a visible, programmatically associated label.
- Third-party content. Some pages link to external websites, PDFs, and embedded services that we do not control and cannot guarantee are accessible.
